HGV Ban Gildersome

Many of you will be aware that for years the Parish Council has been concerned about the ever increasing number of heavy goods vehicles travelling through our village. We hoped that finally something would be done by Leeds City Council, following their decision to allow the construction of the industrial estate on the seventy acres of land between Gelderd Road and Asquith Avenue. It was a condition of the planning application that a weight limit restriction would be implemented on the roads through Gildersome. This would prevent HGV's above 7.5 tonnes travelling through the village, apart from access. The restriction was supposed to be implemented when construction began on the site. We are now at the stage where we have a number of large units in situ, and no HGV ban.

It is very clear in recent correspondence received from Leeds City Council that there seems to be a reluctance to impose this ban. A report presented to the Joint Highway Technical Board on 27th August has been deferred, with a request for a re-draft to be presented at a later date. No explanation was given.

The Parish Council intend to pursue this issue with Leeds City Council and request that all concerned residents contact them also, to add strength to our request for implementation of the HGV ban as a matter of urgency.
