Christmas Light Up

Avatar for Gildersome Parish Council

Another ‘lockdown’ event so different from our normal Light-Up Nights with hundreds of people and a huge firework display.

But at least Gildersome is lit up for Christmas!!!

Due the the present situation The Parish Council wanted to add to the Christmas lights this year. To this end we have new lights on the village Green, and additional lights on some of the trees along Town Street.

Our thanks go to Russell Doherty of RD Forestry, who also installed the additional lights on Town Street. The lights would not be up in our trees without their tremendous skill.

MERRY CHRISTMAS GILDERSOME christmas lights

Residents may have noticed that there is one tree without lights along this stretch. It’s not a mistake. This tree is an ash tree with the onset of ash dieback. It will ultimately have to be felled, and Russell did not deem it safe to climb.

We wish to thank Roger Bennett, although unable to present the brilliant firework display, he helped to install the Christmas tree, along with Graham Brown. Graham then spent hours decorating the tree with hundreds of lights, and has also renewed lights around the Meeting Hall.

Plus, thanks always go to Adam Cousens for installing the temporary CCTV to monitor our beautiful Christmas tree each year. Thanks also to Phil Hird, Centregraphics, for designing and installing our Merry Christmas Gildersome sign.

Finally, the Parish Council would like to thank our Ward Councillors for a grant of £600 towards the cost of the additional lights.
